Upgrading Sound System / Speakers in 2007 S2 Elise

Recommended Posts

Hello,

Does anyone have any experience / advice on upgrading the speaker system in an Elise S2? I have a 2007 model and it has 4 speakers, 2 front and 2 back. I think the standard speakers are:

Alpine SPS-1329 5¼" (13cm), 80W peak power, 20W nominal power. Frequency response 50Hz-25kHz. Sensitivity 91dB/W/m.

Looking on the Halfords website, there seems to be a fairly large range of alternatives that would offer, on the surface at leas, a vast improvement over sound quality?

Any thoughts and advice would be massively welcome.

Ben

Hi Ben,

I went through the same thing last year with the S1 as we use it for long distance touring it is nice to be able to listen to the radio ! Last year my research took me to "Kicker" products as they produced the most compact sub with low frequency resonse I could find. Unfortunatly the exisiting enclosure on the S1 isn't deep enough by about 0.5 inch but with making a small alteration to the exisiting rear speaker case and overlaying a new home made mdf enclosure it took up very littile extra space and is reversable to put the car back to standard. You need to put in a small amplifier to drive it, I found a german amplifier on the net made by carpower which fits perfectly up under the dash in some dead space. The fronts I used some Kicker mid range and some 100mm enclosures which I bonded to the dash in much the same place as the S2. You have the luxuary of a factory enclosure here. (The biggest fault with the S1 was not having forward speakers !!)

The subs I used are COMPVT 6.5"
The mids for the front where KS type (They come with a cover that is almost identical in looks to the S1 elise wheel !!)

The amp was a NANO range from here.. http://monacor.co.uk/products/carfi-amplifier/

Hope this helps

Simon
