1. Mike, I knew you were going to say that - to be honest I got fed up of trawling thro' Kim's photos trying to choose! Anyway, love the high wing, don't like the wedge wing thing, really like the no wing - BUT just love those big fat rear tyres n like Grumpy says, all those sparkly bits on show, especially the net bits over the trumpet type things at the back - really technical eh??? Jules
2. The most beautiful Lotus F1 car ever - sorry Mike, it has to be the 49! Jules
3. Hi Eddie, The CONFIRMED list from Shardlow last night : Martin and Gill Mick and Maxine Dean, Aiden and Katie Lindsay Roger and Chris Kim, Jules and Lottie (not eating, but space required!) You may already have some of the above on your list??? Got 9 more to chase today. Jules
4. We'll be there Fri and Sat - anyone else?? Jules and Kim
5. The Steels have a Seven?? Does it replace the two wheeled thingy?? Jules
6. John, Plenty more I could have mentioned, many of those not mentioned are good cars and many underrated, it's just that most were variations on a theme, the Elan +2, and all the later tin tops followed on from the Cortina etc. The original Europa, the "council house GT40" was a contender but even though I own one I don't think it was quite a ground breaking /iconic car. But just my opinion of course. If I could only pick one then it would be the Elan, just a complete package, good looking, great handling, quick in its day, and when modified/raced a giant killer. But I'm sure others will have their own "champion" PS I think the Golf was the first, Golf GTi was 75 the Lotus Sunbeam 79 so it was just pipped at the post, it should also be remembered that it was actually made to go rallying and production was needed for homologation, the road car was a happy byproduct of that process. Lucky us!
7. Nothing like a crisis to stimulate debate. Fernandes is an arse, sorry can't agree with that one, we wouldn't have "Lotus" on the grid if it weren't for Fernandes who brought the name back into F1. I am sure it still rankles that he was treated badly by Lotus, I am sure that he is guilty of some stirring of the rumour mill by the independent journalist and oh yes Caterham Director, Joe Saward! But arse, I think thats way too harsh. However, it would be no bad thing if when all this plays out he were to purchase Lotus lock stock and barrel. He has ideas and plans that are far more based in reality than FBHs multi super car business plan. His plan was simply too ambitious and too far removed from the Lotus we all understand, and very hard to pull off in the current economic climate, maybe if he could have concentrated on one super car and not try to "build Rome in a day" it might have had more credibility and sustainability. As a life long Lotus enthusiast I am disappointed to say that I don't really believe that Lotus would ever be regarded as true rival to the prancing horse. Lotus is the plucky underdog which punches above its weight, what it might be able to do is to produce a car with performance to match a Fezza with a lower price tag, but ultimately it will not rival Ferrari for the cache of its name etc, The chance to do so has passed, it might have been possible in the halcyon days when Lotus was at the peek of its F1 days. Sadly they are long past and unlikely to return and it has perhaps missed its best opportunity. So what of the future. It has to be said that despite some brilliant cars Lotus has lost money for many years, the Elise flame flickered brightly and should have been the catalyst to put Lotus back into rude health but sadly it has not. The fact is that no Esprit replacement came along and a series of mildly disappointing cars (Europa and dumbed down Elises) have left Lotus with a one car range. One car range? Well almost, the Evora gets rave reviews but has had poor sales, was it over priced or priced over what people will pay for what many see as an Evolution Elise, I know they are different but you can forgive casual observers that view, especially now with the Exige S which seems very much like an Evora wearing slightly different clothes, which looks like it relatives, the Elise. I also think Lotus have reached that point where it's a choice between a Lotus or a Porsche. The Lotus may just perform better, but as a long term car or for someone with an eye on reliability and residuals the Lotus is a hard choice to make. If Lotus were to go into Ferrari territory I fear the same kind of choice would need to be made and the decisions to buy Lotus even harder to justify. As Mike mentioned earlier in this thread, I think the Lotus brand is too strong to disappear completely and someone will rescue the name, the big money is in China and India and the hope of a big buy out rest there, otherwise Lotus may become a very small specialist marque like Noble, I don't know what their finances are like but it must be easier to make money in a niche market than it is to be a small volume manufacturer without the resources and economies of scale of a large manufacturer. The finances and history of Lotus show that the current problems are not new and several times before it has faced becoming another car maker destined for the history books. However like a Phoenix it always manages to rise from the flames and I hope that this time around is no exception and that somehow Lotus can find a path to survival and that it continues to make bench mark "Lotus Greats". Heres Hoping The Lotus greats, well here are mine, what's yours? Lotus 7, racing car for the road and even after all these years in various guises and as kit cars it still a great drive today, it must be good then. Type 14, the original Elite, has its flaws but ............. just so beautiful. The original Elan. The best packaged small sports car ever, set the standard for ride and handling that was probably not matched in the small sports car sector until the Elise. The Ford Lotus Cortina Mk1, the original "Q" car, a great concept with excellent execution made it such a hugh success and winner of the European Touring car championship. The Esprit, the affordable super car, got better and quicker as the years rolled on. 300 Sport the ultimate as the V8 was never quite right, never had that V8 burble for one thing. Mk1 Elise. Light, simple, quick, a real drivers car. Later models might claim to better suspension and aero etc but they lost that purity of driving experience. Mk1 Exige, raised the bar, looked great and significantly different to the Elise so that people knew it was different. Todays Exige and Elise look too much the same. I'm not saying that other Lotus cars including current examples are not good cars, just not ground breaking or as great as these were in the day. Thats my opinion of course and no doubt others will think differently, more debate perhaps! Kim
8. Hi Simon, Yes a great mag, well done, look forward to the next and the next and the next .....................
9. Mike, Sorry I don't know but the dedicated www.lotuselan.net website should be able to help you. good luck!y
10. Kieran, The midlands 2 area meeting is at Shardlow only a couple of miles from you. We meet on the 2nd Monday of each month at the clock warehouse pub. That will be next monday this time around. We have several long term Elan owners and so we should be able to offer help and assistance should you need it and there's nothing like having a look under someones bonnet to see it first hand. People don't start arriving until about 8pm. Welcome to the club!
11. FYI Just out of interest I was asked by the winner of this competition to insure the Evora S for the year. Not a member of LDC but a real enthusiast, has a Caterham and a history of "interesting" cars. Comp Cover, Nil Bonus, Quoted £1650. Bargain, Lotus are paying so thats ok anyway and even if they were not it would have been a cheap price to pay for the loan of an Evora for a year. Besides write ups for the Lotus magazine he is also taking part in lots of other activities, something of a Mega prize as he called it. Good luck I said through gritted teeth, I did not even make it into the test drive round! TOO old or could it be talentless?
12.
Hi all, the next meet will be on Sunday the 15th January 2012 at the Hill top Farm, meeting time 10 am. Please pass this on if you see any members sale shopping.
Hi. We'll be there - we told the Shardlow gang at our meet on Monday, so I hope a few will turn up. See you there, for breakfast!! Jules, Kim and Lottie
13. Simon, Eddie. Thats definitely a 95 not a 94. But great shot for the following issue! P.S. The car did not always run the quad plane rear wing and that just makes it harder to tell the difference. I do have a shot of it at the Lotus 2010 festival and it has a normal wing on it and in quite a few photos in books it has a single plane wing. In fact I don't think it ran the multi wing that often but thats how it is remembered for this unusual feature.
14. I have just insured an Evora which is six months old and has less than 1500 miles on it . The client was telling me that he had thought about changing it for something else, he was offered 15K less than he paid for it. Ouch! He has decided to hang on to it He was pleased with the insurance quote though! Kim
15. Simon, Sorry to say I can't help. I've looked and have some but half the time I can't tell if its a 94 or something else. Time to have a sort out I think. kim
16. Hi Eddie Also coming : Lindsay Dean See you there Jules
17. Tim, Well done, thank you for many years of great work and effort which are much appreciated by the membership I am sure. The electronic mediums are great but somehow the physical magazine still tops it for me. I was going to say take a well earned rest but vintage motorcycling over rough terrain does not sound like a rest to me. But good luck with it, perhaps I should start reading motorcycle news to see if I can spot your name. Best wishes for the future.

19. Thanks to all those LDC members that turned out for this 1st Annual Hinckley car show. This was the first event that has been held here and judging by everyones reaction we hope it is the first of many. The aim is that it can build year on year to be the "Coleford" of the Midlands and it was a very good first effort. Here are some pictures to tempt more people to comer next year. If not for the cars then bacon cobs and tea for breakfast at £1.89 and steak sandwich and chips for lunch at £3.25 might just drag a few people in! 23.
Hi all Just to confirm there is always a meet on the second Monday of the month at Shardlow - 7.30pm is probably a bit early, although Kim and I are often there then taking advantage of the food menu! This is a joint LDC and Club Lotus meet, no point in having two, we're all there for the same reason - LOTUS! It's a very informal meet, lots of chat and laughs (usually the ladies who have been consuming the alcohol as the men are driving their precious cars!). If the weathers good!!! lots of cars and chat in the car park. So see you there? Jules, Mrs At the Limit
Good to see you too Eddie, bring Sue next time?
24.
Kim, on that point, did you get the email I sent you on Monday re the A3??
Hi Ian No sorry did not get it, did you send it here or to work?
