1. The "Revival" is a great event. Great racing and sights you will not see at other race tracks, the free show (classics car park) is one of the best. A few pics mainly of the non racing side as there have been some excellent racing pics already posted. Personally I think this beats an F1 GP anytime, extortionate prices, often poor viewing and very restricted access. But if you have to go to one, save up and go to Monaco, it is the best because you are so close and the noise bounces off the buildings, but its expensive! 2. Lotus back in "Meltdown Mode" ........... again! As a long time follower of all things Lotus I have to say that history seems to be repeating itself. It does seem as if Lotus could be in self destruct mode. The new CEO is trying to carry his Ferrari "experience" too far, too fast. If as it seems he wants to see Lotus rival Ferrari straight away and to launch expensive upmarket cars now in a raging recession which seems ill timed. The £100K Elite is not a Supercar in the Ferrari/McLaren/Lamborghini mode, it is a mid point. The "super" rich who buy "super" cars are for the main part protected from the recession, however the aspiring 100K customers may well be hit and prudently pulling in the purse strings for a while, but equally not quite so badly hit to buy the Lotus hot hatch "noddy car" as seen in the press recently. The Evora while generally well received has not seemingly resulted in such huge order books that "production has had to be increased to meet demand." Lotus will need time to truly move upmarket and the Evora has had many a comment by the press such as "the Lotus still caries a whiff of glue about it". It's not that they don't like it, but they seem to think the cost for what you get is too high, in performance terms it may rival or beat its Porsche alternative but in terms of build quality and engineering it still has some way to go. It must be said that the likes of Porsche and Ferrari have a complete product, a car that carries its own engine and some how that gives them more credibility than a Lotus. For most of its career Lotus has been seen as the plucky underdog producing small capacity cars that out perform more costly and bigger engined rivals, a car that is affordable and punches above its weight. This is exemplified by perhaps its two greatest cars the original Elan and Elise, the Elise did not have its own engine and at this level this is acceptable. The price and whole package of performance and driver appeal giving it mass recognition and sales. If Lotus are to get into true "Supercar" territory they are going to have to do a lt nore than just up the price and use "customer" engines. Lotus financial fortunes have always been shaky throughout its history and it is difficult to understand where the money for the new road cars models is to come from let alone the "Group Lotus" racing ventures that are being touted at the moment. I personally don't have too much of a problem if Lotus want to go upmarket again even into supercar territory but it is a hard trick too pull off. I would have thought that Lotus in F1 racing would have been good for group Lotus and their upmarket aspirations and whilst their financial stake has been minimal the association with Lotus roads cars cannot have been a bad thing. I think this dispute is ill advised on this level and legally I would be surprised if they will win it given the court cases that have been held over this issue before. This years F1 Lotus have gained lots of publicity this year, mostly good as Lotus have consistently been the top newcomers, there are signs that their pace has slipped of late but this is probably due to the fact they have openly admitted to being focused on next years cars with Renault engines and a good move if the current season is anything to go by. It seems that group Lotus now just want to muscle in on the show because it now fits their new "profile" under the new CEO. It could all end in tears, it could be that Lotus (the group) could come a cropper due to over ambitious plans on the road cars and as someone already said a scatter gun approach to motor sport. But what ever the case may be I think that Lotus somehow will be persevered even if it did entail someone picking up "group Lotus" very cheaply like BMW or even Tony F in the next few years. The we can all start to debate whether a Lotus owned by BMW is really a Lotus.
3. In another part to the story it says that they now own all the historic Lotus F1 cars. Does this mean they have done a deal with Clive. Anybody know anything else?
4.
I didn't say I didn't like Goodwood...... just that there are alternatives ANGOULEME I DO like Tour Britannia. Marcus Pye was out in the Lotus 26R I believe but it looks as if there were some problems in your photos. Do you know what was wrong?
Mike, the car in the picture is the Sean Walker car, and that was just a routine checkover before the race at Mallory, it won the race! The Pye/Shriver 26r went out of the event in the morning when the had an off and hit a tree, both of the crew were ok, but the car obviously retired.
5. If Goodwoods not quite your thing Mike how about some of these from Tour Britannia on Thursday at Mallory Park. 6. Paris Motor Show. Something big is set to happen. Lotus have booked the BIGGEST stand of any manufacturer at the show. Lotus have advised employees that if anything leaks out and it can be traced back to them, they will be instantly dismissed! So it fair to say we are going to see something more than just the current range. It is very likely that the much talked about and long overdue "NEW Esprit" will be unveiled and it may be much closer to production than we think. We may also see a "super car" announced which will rival the likes of Ferrari, nice but out of most peoples price range. The ultimate Lotus track car may be on show. I hope that Lotus continue with affordable sports cars, the sort that punch above their weight in the spirit of the original Elan and now the Elise. I think that despite the latest face lift of the Elise it's latest engine is a retrograde step and perhaps it's time for a completely new small sports car, lets hope so. Rumor also has it that the unloved current Europa might soon be dropped from the range. Paris show is 30th September, watch this space....................
7. Hi Andy Been to Silverstone today, Chevrons a plenty and some other interesting stuff, We are off to Goodwood as well, only 7 days to go!. 8. To John, Wish I'd kept the bubble cars, have you seent he price of them now!!! No photos, I owned a car but no camera! Kim
9. My list is a bit like Mikes, I could go on and on, but I'll try not to bore you. My first car was a BMW, but it was only an Isetta Bubble car, this was quickly followed by another bubble car when the first one blew up! You could drive these at 16 and as I was not allowed a motorcycle (a good thing in hindsight) this was my first set of wheels. The bubble car ended up with mini cooper "s" wide wheels and at 16 I thought it was the business. Next, now aged 17 followed a number of Spridgets in various states of tune and modifications ranging from one called the "puurple people eater" yes it was purple, to a full monty wide wheeled 1340cc quick beast. Other interesting cars over the years, Hillman Avenger Tiger, Jaguar E Type (only for a week), Triumph GTS Mk1, BMW M6 a proper beemer and quick, in fact the fastest car I have driven, the book says 163 mph and on a private road of course it does every single one of them. I have also had and look back with affection on, a variety of Minis, Moggy Minor, VW Camper (the slowest thing I've had), Mk1 Cortina GT. The worst thing I have owned was a Nissan Serena van, It was so noisy as the engine was in front with you under the seats. It would also try to put you in a ditch at the first sign of a corner. There are lots of other Euro boxes I have owned that could be contenders in this category, a Citroen GSA spings to mind but lets not go there......... Lotus cars owned, Elan S4 DHC, Europa Twin Cam, Europa S2, Esprit S3, Caterham 7, Excel. Would like.. Elite Mk14, Lotus Cortina Mk1, S1 Elise and S1 Exige

Autumn Drive Out

Hi Mike Sounds like a great day out but unfortunately we will be away on holiday. Hope it all goes well, I know how much hard work is involved in organising something like this. Kim, Jules & Lottie
11. Well done Mark Webber! What a refreshing change to have some one who does not always speak the corperate garbage and politics of F1! Loved his comment on the radio just after he won. "Not bad for a number two driver" Red Bull Racing are turning into a PR dissaster zone, blaming Webber for that comming together that in most peoples mind was down to Vettle, then giving the wing to Vettle this weekend has done them no favours. I just hope now that Webber can go on to maintain his form. Vettel is fast, very fast and one day will be champion, but this season has shown some immaturity, no one likes getting beaten, especially by your team mate but he has not handled it well, his attitude has made him look a bit spoilt and he is clearly rattled when he is out performed by MW. Mark Webber is a wysiwyg kind of guy and thats vary rare in F1. The only other person who is "telling it like it is", is Eddie Jordan, some of what he says is a bit banal but he was spot on when he asked Christian Horner why his congratulations to MW seem so unenthusiastic compared to when SV wins. More of that please EJ. New slogan for Red Bull.... "Red Bull nicks your wings" Good news Lotus are showing real ambition, good result this weekend, especially for Trulli who has endured some very bad luck up until now. I look at the race predictions on this forum and for the Lotus results they are always very opptomistic, this car was designed late, overweight, under developed and with a basic aero package. In the time they had they have done well to be on the grid and be best of the rest. What I really like is the news that they are seeking the Renault engine for next year and that they are hoping to change the name to Team Lotus. This shows that they are serious about improving and are not there just to make up the numbers, they are working very hard on next years car, possibbly to the detriment of further significant improvements this year but in my opinion that is the right thing to do. Well done to all at Lotus for showing the ambition and drive to take them to the next level. Good solid mid-field performances next year would be very good progress for a year 2 team.
12. OK 1) Vetel 2) Hamilton 3) Alonso 16th Heikki 17th Trulli Hope I'm wrong and it is Button,Hamilton,Webber. Heikki 10th Trulli 11th....... but don't bet your house on it. Is it just me but why would I like to see Button in front of Hamilton. I think Hamilton is probably quicker but for some reason I'm not keen on Hamilton.
13. You really should move back to the UK. But as England are out of the football I suppose you are more German at the momemt?
14. Jules, Kim and Lottie in the Big Blue Van!
15. Feeling grumpy 'is good for you' An attack of the grumps can make you communicate better, it is suggested In a bad mood? Don't worry - according to research, it's good for you. An Australian psychology expert who has been studying emotions has found being grumpy makes us think more clearly. In contrast to those annoying happy types, miserable people are better at decision-making and less gullible, his experiments showed. While cheerfulness fosters creativity, gloominess breeds attentiveness and careful thinking, Professor Joe Forgas told Australian Science Magazine. 'Eeyore days' The University of New South Wales researcher says a grumpy person can cope with more demanding situations than a happy one because of the way the brain "promotes information processing strategies". Negative moods trigger more attentive, careful thinking, paying greater attention to the external world Professor Joe Forgas He asked volunteers to watch different films and dwell on positive or negative events in their life, designed to put them in either a good or bad mood. Next he asked them to take part in a series of tasks, including judging the truth of urban myths and providing eyewitness accounts of events. Those in a bad mood outperformed those who were jolly - they made fewer mistakes and were better communicators. Professor Forgas said: "Whereas positive mood seems to promote creativity, flexibility, co-operation and reliance on mental shortcuts, negative moods trigger more attentive, careful thinking, paying greater attention to the external world." The study also found that sad people were better at stating their case through written arguments, which Forgas said showed that a "mildly negative mood may actually promote a more concrete, accommodative and ultimately more successful communication style". 16. Some of you who went on one of the drive outs last year will recall that we visited a friend of Colin Smith who has kindly invited LDC members back again this year for a get together of "interesting cars". Last year there were a good variety of cars besides the Lotus of course and this year our host has "aquired" a Route Master bus to add to his collection. Please note that the address for this event is: Halford Hill Farm CV36 5DL Our host is Richard Gray. Format is turn up from noon onwards, bring your own picnic and anything you want to cook on a communal BBQ. It is on the road from Halford to Idlicote. If anyone needs more directions, please call me. Could I have a quick call to confirm if you are coming, please? 07841 012506 I have:- Colin Smith Mick Jaggard Kim Eaton + Ian + Dean Weather forecast is good! P.S. Sorry about this but this topic might be listed elswhere but I could not find it.
17. I actually went to the museum last Sunday, the last time I was there must be 5-6 years ago. I noted that some well known exibits are missing but don't know if they have "gone" or are "resting". It's still full of great cars and memorabilia and a welcome addition to the museum is a couple of diorama type settings and the occasion non single seater like an MG TC and an early Porsche. Its very much worth a vist if only to support Donnington and at £7.00 entry its a great way to spend a few hours especially if its wet outside. One car I was looking at closely is a Lotus 33 and this is currently advertised for sale in various "posh" magazines. It has been on loan at the museum as are many of the exhibits so its pending departure has nothing to do with a fire sale to fund development. It's great news that it's going to come back, great track and luckily local for me.
18.
"At 21 I used to get miffed when Girls gave me the Boot so I think Vettel's coping well with the pressure".
So how do you cope now John, lol
19. Well done to new entry Goders Elise who wins the Monaco GP. A tie for CJ & Tim and me last! Red Bulls flying and so is Trulli! Next stop Turkey!
20. Lets just make this clear, I am not a Shumi fan but.......... I think from what I understand it was legal, they were under racing conditions as opposed to the situation of finishing the race under safety car conditions. Even if he should not have overtaken, the penalty seems a bit harsh, seems like every dog has his day and this time it was Damons, Te Hee! I think the Red Bulls have shown they are the best car out there, if they have solved the niggles then they will be hard to stop. Glad to see Webber doing well, not only would no one fit him in a car but for many seasons he has been plain unlucky, I hope it keeps going well for him, he always comes across as a nice guy. Vetel looked a bit miffed in the press room, he dosen't like being beaten by Webber but his time will come again.
21. Happy Birthday, yippee Have a nice day, doing anything special?
22. Kims Monaco Madness I think this is the hardest race to call, anyone of 8 could win this I reckon but as I can only pick three, here they are. I was going with Tims prediction but he beat me to it. 1st Hamilton 2nd Alonso 3rd Button Trulli 16th Heikki 19th Kobyashi in the wall by lap 10! Red Bulls quick in quali with good one lap pace but brake problems put paid to race wins, they get overtaken in the pit stops This is harder to call than the lottery numbers!

Chris, Sounds like its getting exciting! Post a picture of the Elan when it comes back. I echo what has already been said on valuations. Insurance Make sure the insurance company increase the value on an "agreed value" basis so that you would get a full payout if a claim should occur. As the value of the car has increased and so the insurers potential payout you will probably be asked to pay a bit more premium. But its better to be properly insurerd rather than to cut corners for a few quid. We are insuring a lot more Elans now with values over 20K. If you are not already sorted or need any help give me a call. Kim Insurance man. 0116 2333559 work

I always have to edit the http tag, if I don't it shows a code but no picture, I must be doing something wrong!
