Don't worry - according to research, it's good for you. An Australian psychology expert who has been studying emotions has found being grumpy makes us think more clearly. In contrast to those annoying happy types, miserable people are better at decision-making and less gullible, his experiments showed. While cheerfulness fosters creativity, gloominess breeds attentiveness and careful thinking, Professor Joe Forgas told Australian Science Magazine. 'Eeyore days' The University of New South Wales researcher says a grumpy person can cope with more demanding situations than a happy one because of the way the brain "promotes information processing strategies". Negative moods trigger more attentive, careful thinking, paying greater attention to the external world Professor Joe Forgas He asked volunteers to watch different films and dwell on positive or negative events in their life, designed to put them in either a good or bad mood. Next he asked them to take part in a series of tasks, including judging the truth of urban myths and providing eyewitness accounts of events. Those in a bad mood outperformed those who were jolly - they made fewer mistakes and were better communicators. Professor Forgas said: "Whereas positive mood seems to promote creativity, flexibility, co-operation and reliance on mental shortcuts, negative moods trigger more attentive, careful thinking, paying greater attention to the external world." The study also found that sad people were better at stating their case through written arguments, which Forgas said showed that a "mildly negative mood may actually promote a more concrete, accommodative and ultimately more successful communication style". Some of you who went on one of the drive outs last year will recall that we visited a friend of Colin Smith who has kindly invited LDC members back again this year for a get together of "interesting cars". Last year there were a good variety of cars besides the Lotus of course and this year our host has "aquired" a Route Master bus to add to his collection. Please note that the address for this event is: Halford Hill Farm CV36 5DL Our host is Richard Gray. Format is turn up from noon onwards, bring your own picnic and anything you want to cook on a communal BBQ. It is on the road from Halford to Idlicote. If anyone needs more directions, please call me. Could I have a quick call to confirm if you are coming, please? 07841 012506 I have:- Colin Smith Mick Jaggard Kim Eaton + Ian + Dean Weather forecast is good! P.S. Sorry about this but this topic might be listed elswhere but I could not find it.
4. I actually went to the museum last Sunday, the last time I was there must be 5-6 years ago. I noted that some well known exibits are missing but don't know if they have "gone" or are "resting". It's still full of great cars and memorabilia and a welcome addition to the museum is a couple of diorama type settings and the occasion non single seater like an MG TC and an early Porsche. Its very much worth a vist if only to support Donnington and at £7.00 entry its a great way to spend a few hours especially if its wet outside. One car I was looking at closely is a Lotus 33 and this is currently advertised for sale in various "posh" magazines. It has been on loan at the museum as are many of the exhibits so its pending departure has nothing to do with a fire sale to fund development. It's great news that it's going to come back, great track and luckily local for me.
5.
"At 21 I used to get miffed when Girls gave me the Boot so I think Vettel's coping well with the pressure".
So how do you cope now John, lol
6. Well done to new entry Goders Elise who wins the Monaco GP. A tie for CJ & Tim and me last! Red Bulls flying and so is Trulli! Next stop Turkey!
7. Lets just make this clear, I am not a Shumi fan but.......... I think from what I understand it was legal, they were under racing conditions as opposed to the situation of finishing the race under safety car conditions. Even if he should not have overtaken, the penalty seems a bit harsh, seems like every dog has his day and this time it was Damons, Te Hee! I think the Red Bulls have shown they are the best car out there, if they have solved the niggles then they will be hard to stop. Glad to see Webber doing well, not only would no one fit him in a car but for many seasons he has been plain unlucky, I hope it keeps going well for him, he always comes across as a nice guy. Vetel looked a bit miffed in the press room, he dosen't like being beaten by Webber but his time will come again.
8. Happy Birthday, yippee Have a nice day, doing anything special?
9. Kims Monaco Madness I think this is the hardest race to call, anyone of 8 could win this I reckon but as I can only pick three, here they are. I was going with Tims prediction but he beat me to it. 1st Hamilton 2nd Alonso 3rd Button Trulli 16th Heikki 19th Kobyashi in the wall by lap 10! Red Bulls quick in quali with good one lap pace but brake problems put paid to race wins, they get overtaken in the pit stops This is harder to call than the lottery numbers!

Chris, Sounds like its getting exciting! Post a picture of the Elan when it comes back. I echo what has already been said on valuations. Insurance Make sure the insurance company increase the value on an "agreed value" basis so that you would get a full payout if a claim should occur. As the value of the car has increased and so the insurers potential payout you will probably be asked to pay a bit more premium. But its better to be properly insurerd rather than to cut corners for a few quid. We are insuring a lot more Elans now with values over 20K. If you are not already sorted or need any help give me a call. Kim Insurance man. 0116 2333559 work

13. Spanish Grand Prix Predictions 1st Hamilton 2nd Button 3rd Vettel Heikki 17th Trulli 19th Although Lotus have upgrades, so do all the other teams. I think they will be closer than before lets say/hope 3-3.5 secs off the race pace rather than 4-5 as it was before, Hopefully with a 3 week break they will have got a handle on the hydraulic problems and the cars might have a strong run to the finish. I expect them to still be best of the newbies and maybe in front of a couple of retirements. Just as a side issue I expect Shumi to out qualify Rosberg, but I think the car might be "light" to boost his confidence and to try and dent Nickos, also they can blame any poor showing on the wrong stratergy. Mercedes are throwing all their resources at Shumi, altering the car for his driving style etc, if he beats Rosberg then it will be a huge boost for him but demoralising for Nicko for despite his performances thus far they still seem to be focusing around Shumi. That could be bad for Nicko as the season goes on, but I still think Rosberg will out do him in the race. I hope he does because so far in equal cars he has outperformed him and now to give Shumi cars tailored to his needs seems unfair, same old Shumi situation then.

15. The saga goes on. The Irish regulator has allowd Quinns to write new business. But they have placed restrictions on themas to what they can write, The stated that they were trying to protect Quinns for punative losses in the uk insurance maket. Accordingly they have restricted Quinns to writing business for Provisional Licence holders only. Do they not know that learners pass their test at some point? kim

Can't help on the shipping but there are some other things you need to be aware of. If you are from Oz you will probably already know but if not hold onto your hat. Importing cars in to Oz is hard work unless the cars is built before January 1989. But the car has to be original. Even then there are still a number of hoops to go throughnot least that not all ports will accept old cars into port! There are other schemes for personal import, Retuning expat Ozzies or for first time settlers when taxation rules are relaxed but lots of other regulations about ADRs, Austrailian Design Rules that the car might have to be altered to comply with and these can vary from state to state! Lots of paper work and veryfication of 12 months previous and continous use (Not just ownership) required if you are claiming it as a personal import. If the car has air con, more rules and regulations about polluting the ozone. Lots and lots of rules so check out this web site, http://www.infrastructure.gov.au/roads/vehicle_regulation/bulletin/importing_vehicles/general/EligibilityCriteria_2.aspx
20. Hi Chris, I know you will be doing your best but when I tried your "fux" thats a cross between a fix and a fudge, it just meant all the other websites i went into displayed in huge fonts! If it is of any interest/use this was not happening the first few times I used this new forum. Good luck, sorry about all us IE users! Kim

22. Hi, Following on from my previous post (on the old forum) I can advise that the FSA have reversed their decision and as of the 22nd April, Quinns are allowed to write motor insurance once again. The restrictions placed on their other contracts remain in force. This could be good news for lots of young drivers as they were of course extremely competitive, especially for young males. It is not known if their rates will have altered so all you can do is get a quote in the normal way. Prospective clients should not be unduly worried by recent events as even if their permission was to be withdrawn once again, policies would remain in force and therefore claims would be paid. Quinns situation has had a lot to do with "politics" rather than any thing else and after a challenge in the courts it would seem that the FSA regulators have had to back down a little. Please note that I cannot write business with Quinns as this is a "direct to the public" operation but I thought it worth passing on for all of those of you who have youngsters insured with them or sons/daughters who will need insurance soon. If you need anymore information on this or general insurance advice, please contact me. Kim
